Picking Fruit

Cherry Picking

Every spring we open our farm for families, friends, and neighbors to come together and enjoy picking fresh cherries from our orchard to take home.

At our u-pick, we provide a fun outdoor experience for the everyone! Toddlers, grandparents, school groups, church groups, family reunions, we have space for it all on our 70-acre farm.

We never charge an entrance fee, and you only pay for the fruit you pick. We provide buckets for picking into, or you are welcome to bring your own basket. After you have enjoyed your time wandering our beautiful orchard, tasting the fruit as you go, taking photos, and picking the best ones, we will weigh your cherries and check you out!

It's that easy, and so much fun!

In the Forest

Comfortable Shoes

Wear comfortable shoes when you come to pick at the orchard. You will be walking on uneven surfaces with grasses, sticks, rocks and more. Comfortable shoes that protect your feet are key to a great cherry picking experience!

Water

It can get quite hot in the orchard. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.

Camera

Cameras

It's not everyday you get to be in such a beautiful and unique setting as the orchard! Bring a camera and take some photos so you have lasting memories long after your cherries have been eaten.

Baskets

We love when you bring your own basket to pick into! We will always take off for the weight of your basket when checking out, so you only pay for your cherries. If you are using our buckets to pick into, we ask that you bring your own reusable bag for checking out to save plastic!

Ladders

At Nunn Better Farms (our Sellers Ave location) we do not provide ladders for picking as most of the fruit is plenty low enough and they are not needed. However, you are welcome to bring your own ladder to the farm if you would like!

At Nunn Better Farms 2, our Balfour location, the trees are taller and we do offer ladders for picking.

  • How much does it cost?
The cost is $4.00 per pound, and we never charge an entrance fee so you only pay for the fruit you pick!
  • Do I need to make a reservation?
No! We happily accomidate all groups on a first-come, first-served basis
  • When is the best time to pick cherries?
We have different varieties ripening all season long, so if you have a variety that you love, you should come and pick when that variety is ripe! The best time to come and pick is weekdays first thing in the morning before it gets too hot, or later in the early evening once it has started to cool off, around 5:30. If you are planning to come and pick on a weekend, we suggest arriving as early as possible to avoid large crowds when we are the busiest in the middle of the day.
  • Can I bring my dog?
We love dogs at Nunn Better Farms, and happily welcome friendly, leashed dogs into our orchard. Please always clean up after your dog so that we can continue to allow dogs in our orchards for years to come.
  • Do you have restrooms?
Yes! We provide port-potties at all of our locations for those picking.
  • When is cherry season?
While every year is different because ripening fruit depends on Mother Nature, cherry picking season is typically early May through the end of June.
  • Do you have any other fruit besides cherries to pick?
Yes! We are happy to announce that we have started growing a small crop of peaches, apricots, and nectarines which should be ripening in June, but our primary fruit will always be cherries.
  • What types of cherries do you have?
We have over 30+ varieties of cherries growing at Nunn Better Farms, but most of them are experimental varieties that we grow for fun. We have 8 varieties available for U-Pick every year. These include Royal Hazels, Royal Tiogas, Santinas, Chleans, Corals, Black Pearls, Rainiers, Lapins.
  • How do I know when a particular variety is ready for picking?
The ripening times for different varieties is different every year based on the weather. The best way to know when we will be picking a particular variety is to follow along on instagram @nunnbetterfarms where we will always announce when we start picking a new variety.
  • What forms of payments do you accept?
We accept cash, card, apple pay, and other electronic forms of payment.
